   Betty Jean Piper, 85, of Quincy, died at 11:26 a.m. Thursday (February 23, 2017) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born March 25, 1931 in Quincy, Betty was the daughter of Lawrence "Sonny" and Ila Van Meter Gieselman.  She married David W. Piper on March 15, 1952, in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2016.

   Betty enjoyed cooking, gardening with her husband and visiting with family and friends.  She was a caring person who supported the Quincy Salvation Army and St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital and had a warm place in her heart for animals.

   Betty devoted her life to the care of her family.  

   Survivors include a son, David Piper of Quincy; six sisters in law, Darlene Gieselman of Quincy, Marian Piper of Van Buren, MO, Ada Zupan (John) of Hannibal, MO, Grace Ann Genovese of Hannibal, MO, Pearl Davis (Jeff) of New London, MO and Debbie Schindler (Francis) of New London, MO; two brothers in law, Richard Piper (June Ann) of Hannibal, MO and Pete Piper (Shirley) of Hannibal, MO;  and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mrs. Piper was preceded in death by her parents; her husband. David; a son, Darin W. Piper; a brother, Kenneth Gieselman; a sister in law, Virginia Harsell (Jack); and three brothers in law, Frank Genovese, Wayne Piper (Judy) and Robley "Buzz" Piper Jr..

   Graveside services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 in Greenmount Cemetery with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating.

   There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the graveside service.  

   Arrangements are in the care of the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home

   Memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
