DOROTHY V. SETTLES

   Dorothy V. Settles, 90, of Quincy, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday (February 24, 2017) in her home.

   Born October 31, 1926, in Palmyra, Missouri, Dorothy was the daughter of Edwin and Caroline Kempf Thayer.  She married William B. Settles on February 10, 1950, in Hannibal, Missouri.  He preceded her in death on February 13, 2011.

   Dorothy enjoyed dancing, gardening and going to Kelly's with her friends, but her passion was Tennis. She was a long time member of the Quincy Racquet Club and was an avid player, still playing at age 90.

   Dorothy was employed at the International Shoe Factory until her marriage.

   Survivors include a sister, Kathryn Laird of Aliso Viejo, CA; a sister in law, Frances Thayer
of Hannibal, MO; five nieces, Stacey Phillippy (Bob), Vicki Cassady (John), Linda Muehring (Steve), Connie Thayer and Pattie Jo Bird; four nephews, Greg Laird, Jim Salter (Kathy), Virgil Lehenbauer (Gerry) and Eddie Thayer; and many loving great nieces and great nephews.

   Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; three brothers, Everette Thayer (Peggy), Alonzo Thayer (Marge) and Henry Thayer; a sister, Ailene Salter (Don); sisters in law, Dorothy Lehenbauer and Gertie Tye; a brother in law, Nicholas Bird; and a nephew, Claude Lehenbauer.

   Cremation has been acorded to Dorothy. A service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held Monday April 3, 2017 at 10:00 at Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home with Pastor Richard Martin officiating.

   There will be no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the services.

   Arrangements are in the care of the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.

   Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
