MARLENE  M.  CARLSON

  Marlene M. Carlson, 80, of Quincy, died at 10:04 p.m. Tuesday (May 23, 2017) in her home.

  Born January 12, 1937 in Alton, Illinois, Marlene was the daughter of Willis and Eva Keidel Beatty. She married Everett "Kit" Carlson Jr. on February 11, 1961 in Alton, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 27, 2013.

  Marlene was a graduate of Alton High School. She enjoyed reading and tending to her gardens. She loved spending time with her family and cooking for family dinners and especially enjoyed traveling with her husband, sister and brother in law throughout the United States. Marlene was passionate about history, old homes and architecture and was a volunteer at the Gardner Museum of Architecture for many years.

  Marlene devoted her life to raising her family and later had been employed as a bookeeper.

  Survivors include two daughters, Penny Hutton (Bruce) of Quincy, and Carrie Edgar (Mark) of Madison, WI; three grandchildren, Ty Carlson of Madison, WI, Tracy Hutton of St. Louis, MO, and Anna Hutton of Quincy; three step grandchildren, Marec Edgar (Lindsay) of Darien, IL, Miranda Edgar (James Shanholtzer) of Naperville, IL, and Mallory Edgar of Chicago, IL; five great grandchildren, Elena Edgar, Hunter Glasgow, Alexander Edgar, Lincoln Glasgow, and Isla Edgar.  She is also survived by a sister, Julia Brawley; a brother, David Beatty (Carolyn); brother in law, Roger Carlson; and several nieces and nephews.

  Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett "Kit" Carlson Jr.; her brother, James Beatty (Anita); her aunt, Ramona Aldridge (Garrett); her brother in law, Dan Brawley; and sister in law, Sally Carlson.

   Cremation has been accorded to Mrs. Carlson.  Private services will be held.

  Arrangements are in the care of Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home
