Frederick Joseph "Fred" Werneth, 58, of 2209 Sunny Lane, Quincy, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on August 6, 2017.

Born November 6, 1958 in Quincy, Fred was the son of Fred P. and Rosemary C. Finigan Werneth.  He was married to Susan Whidby Werneth of Warner Robins, GA, from 1980 to 1983, and to Nancy Day Werneth, currently of Union, ME, from 1986 to 2016.

Fred was a graduate of Quincy High School, and was a proud member of the Flying Dutchmen Drum and Bugle Corps throughout his school years.  He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1977 to 1981 as a Security Specialist.

Fred was easy-going and fun-loving, and always enjoyed a good laugh, perhaps at one of his own puns.  He cherished his family above all else and was happy to be back in Quincy.  He was an avid sports fan, rooting for his all-time favorite Cubs, and adopting the Patriots when he lived in New England.  During his years at Menards he enjoyed playing on their Softball and Wallyball teams. He especially loved cheering on his daughter Hannah at her high school and college track meets.

Fred worked at various jobs as he and his family moved around the country, mostly in the Home Improvement field, including retail positions at Menards and Home Depot.  He was currently employed by Hollister-Whitney Elevator Corporation as a machine operator.

Survivors include his mother Rosemary Finigan Werneth of Quincy, son Preston S. Werneth of Warner Robins GA, daughter Hannah R. Werneth of San Antonio, TX, brother Samuel Lee Werneth and fiance' Bonnie of Glen Allen, VA., sisters Carol A. Sass and her husband James, Jacalyn K. "Jackie" Murry and her husband John, Annette M. Chatten, all of Quincy, and Cynthia S. "Cindy" Harness and her husband Gary of Moline, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his father Frederick P. Werneth and a sister Mary Lou "M. L." Werneth.  He passed away on the same day as his brother, James A. "Jimmy" Werneth.

A celebration of Fred*s life will be held Saturday at 12:00 Noon at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.  Inurnment with Military Honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will be in St. Peters Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends from 10:00 until the time of services at 12:00 Noon on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the family to help with expenses.

Dear Rosemary,
I am deeply saddened as I find yet another son (and QHS grad) has passed. He has the same infectious smile we remember from you and the Finegan family. We send our sincere condolences to you and your sons' families.
