     James H. Mewes, 70, of Quincy, died at 11:00 p.m. Wednesday (August 30, 2017) in Blessing Hospital.
     Born December 10, 1946 in Quincy, Jim was the son of Karl R. and Lillian Howser Mewes. Jim  married Peggy Knuffman Neff and from that union of 13 years was born three children, James Mewes Jr., Eric Mewes, Gidget Claus. He later married Lenelle Dodds in July of 1985, in Bradenton, Florida. She survives.
    Mr. Mewes served his country as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970. Jim earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was later stationed in Hawaii and was selected to drive the Presidential limousine for Lyndon B. Johnson during the President's visit.
   Jim and Lenelle enjoyed camping, dancing and socializing with their friends.
   Survivors include his wife, Lenelle; two sons, James Mewes Jr. (Denise) of Quincy and Eric Mewes of Quincy; one daughter, Gidget Claus (Fiance Jason Putnam) of Quincy; three step children, Tracy Walker of Bradenton, FL, Robert Heeger of Bradenton, FL, and Cory Heeger of Quincy; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Karen Szarka (Terry) of Quincy; and many nieces and nephews.
   Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard Mewes, two sisters, Judy Blackburn and Theresa Mewes in infancy, and a son in law Jeffrey Claus.
   Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Shane Tomko officiating.
   Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
   Burial with Military Honors by the Quincy American Legion Post 37 and the United States Marine Corps Funeral Honors Detail will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
   Memorials may be made to the Quincy Homeward Bound Waggins Animal Care and St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Jim you will be missed by many. You are a special friend and may you look down as you will not have to suffer or be in any pain again. Rest in peace. Sorrow is one thing no one wants to endure but it is the carrying on of lives that will miss you.

So sorry to here about Jim's death. Know you all loved him and he loved all of you. Just think of the fun he is having with Jeff in heaven. I'm out of town as Dawn is having chemo tomorrow. Take care of yourselves! God Bless!
