  Hazel I. Akers, 87 of Quincy died at 8:00 a.m. Monday (September 4, 2017) in her home.

  Born October 4, 1929 in Oklahoma City, OK. Hazel was the daughter of William and Fern Evans Sanders.  She married Floyd E. Akers on April 30, 1949 in Liberty, IL. He preceded her in death on January 14, 2010.

   Hazel was a graduate of the QHS class of 1947 and attended Luther Memorial Church.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time at their log cabin on Mark Twain Lake. Hazel especially loved spending time with her family. She was a self-employed beautician for 23 years. She then became employed as a bookkeeper for Kmart from 1972 until her retirement in 1994.

   Survivors include three daughters Barbara Plunk of Rushville, IL, Janet Landwehr (Michael) of Quincy and Sheree Lansing (Fred) of Beverly Hills, FL; six grandchildren Randy Plunk (Sara), Terry Plunk, Chris Landwehr (Jamy), Matt Landwehr (Kristen), Joshua Lansing (Heather), Jessie Gray (Joe); seven great-grandchildren; Jared Plunk, Nathan Plunk, Brittany Landwehr, Brett Landwehr, Brantley Lansing, Skyler Lansing and Mia Gray; four brothers Robert Sanders of East Moline, IL , Richard Sanders (Glee) of Hillside, IL, Earl Sanders (Mary) of Rock Island, IL, Roger Sanders of Oakland, CA; two sisters Grace Garner (Don) of Quincy, Betty Burch (Clyde) of LaPlata, MO.

Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers William Sanders, John Sanders, Arthur Sanders and Thomas Sanders; three sisters Delores Davis, Mary Schmidt, Anna Hipkins.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Hazel will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.  Private family burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice.

Sorry to hear of the death of your mother, Hazel.. I will keep her and the family in my prayers. When we were growing up, living along the Rock River, we had a neighbor named Hazel, she was a great lady. I feel sure your mother was like her, a joy to know.
