MARJORIE  "MARGE" GERST

   Marjorie "Marge" Gerst, 82 of Quincy died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday (October 17, 2017) in Good Samaritan Home.

   Born March 8, 1935 in Quincy, Marge was the daughter of J. Kenneth and Eleanor L. Schultz Arrowsmith.  She married Arnold Gerst on July 3, 1955 in Taylor, Missouri.  He survives.

   Marge was member of the Apostolic Christian Church of America in Taylor, Missouri.  She took an active role in the lives of her children, serving as a den mother when the boys were active in the Cub Scouts and also liked to watch the children in all their school activities. She was a local disaster volunteer for the Quincy Chapter American Red Cross for 6 years and was a member of the Great River Genealogical Society and the Traveler's Protective Association of America. She and her husband, Arnold, enjoyed traveling, making trips to Germany, Switzerland, England, Alaska, Hawaii and throughout the continental United States.  Marge loved to bake and will be remembered for her famous dinner rolls.

  Marge was employed in the Darien (Illinois) Public School System as a health aid in the Junior High School for 11 years, until moving back to Quincy in 1982.

   Survivors include her husband Arnold; one daughter, Jenny Gerst of Darien, IL; two sons, Mark Gerst (Jae) of Mahomet, IL and John Gerst (Julie) of Quincy; four grandchildren, Kyle Gerst (Rachel) of Providence, RI, Kayla Gerst of Munster, IN, Tyler Gerst and Taylor Gerst both of Quincy; one brother, Robert Arrowsmith of Quincy; two sisters, Ruth Hill of Quincy and Betty Turner of Quincy; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

   Mrs. Gerst was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth J. Arrowsmith; a sister, Norma King;  three brothers in law, Kenneth Hill, Cecil King and Glenn Turner;  a sister in law, Wilma Arrowsmith; and two nephews, Michael Kenneth Arrowsmith and Roger Kent Arrowsmith.

   Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the Apostolic Christian Church of America in Taylor, Missouri.  Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church cemetery.

  Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 in the fellowship hall next to the church and Friday morning from 9:00 to 9:45 in the church foyer.

   Memorials have been established with the Apostolic Christian Church Building Fund or the Scholarship Trust Fund for the Hearing Impaired.  Any flowers or memorials may be sent to the attention of the funeral home at 1435 State Street, Quincy, Illinois 62301.

Marge was a great lady. I enjoyed my time with her. I am at peace knowing that she no longer hurts. RIP Marge. You will be missed.
