CALVIN  C. SPEARS

    Calvin C. Spears, 74, of Quincy, died at 12:06 p.m. Monday (November 13, 2017) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born September 12, 1943 in Welch, West Virginia, Calvin was the son of Ernestine Dennison Spears. He married Joanne L. Tournear on August 13, 1977 in Quincy. She survives.

   Calvin proudly served his country in the U. S. Army Reserve from 1960 to 1963.

   Mr. Spears was a member of the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 and the Adams County Farm Bureau. Calvin was employed as an over the road truck driver for 39 1/2 years until his retirement in 2012.

    Calvin was an accomplished musician and enjoyed playing the harmonica and guitar, as well as writing his own music.

   Survivors include his wife, Joanne; two sons, Calvin Scott Spears of Louisiana, MO and Christian Coy Spears (Erica) of Quincy; one daughter Mona Kay Spears of Mendon, IL; two brothers, Donald Ray Spears of Lexington, KY and Wetzel Jon Spears of Van Lear, KY; one sister Linda Sue Hosea of Flat Gap, KY; eight grandchildren, Taylor Turner, Brett Turner, Seth Spiker, Matthew Spears, Brandon Spears, Brennan Metz-Spears, Madison Spears, and Bentley Spears.

   Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Logan Dewayne Spears; his daughter, Lisa Fay Spears, his brother Jackie Lee Spears, and two grandchildren, Ashley Spears and Levi Rogers.

   Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in the Bethel Assembly of God Church with Pastor Todd Hastings officiating. Burial with Military Honors by the Quincy American Legion Post 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

    Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer  Cookson Funeral Home and Friday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at Bethel Assembly of God Church.

    Memorials may be made to the The Great River Honor Flight.
