Russ,

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I remember him well from school. I know this is especially hard since it's so close to loosing your mother. Thinking of you and the rest of the family, and I know that the thoughts and prayers of many are with you.

My husband, Jerry Foley, taught with Derv at Jr. High.   He was also on some of the organizations (education) that he served on.   We always had the greatest respect for Derv.  Blessing to the family.

My sympathies to the Garrison family on the loss of your mother and father.  Mr. Garrison was my wonderful science teacher at QJHS.

So sorry for your family's loss. I can't begin to tell you what a great teacher Mr. Garrison was at QJHS. He made science my favorite subject and I was lucky to have him all three years I was there.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I was "lost" in Jr. High, but he made me believe in myself.  I didn't follow him in a career in science but taught computers to new Air Force recruits.  His example showed me how to get through to those "lost" students!  Those humanitarian and teaching skills I absorbed will create a ripple effect, touching lives for generations.  A great teacher and even better man!

Too few days ago, we wrote to you with sympathy on the loss of your mother.  Once again, our deepest condolences to you, in the passing of your father.  He was a wonderful science teacher and mentor, when we were his students at Liberty High School.  We have admired him through the years, as he remained so active and interested in all of life.  A most precious couple reunited once again!

Dear Russ, Ron, Brad and families,
We join the many who pay tribute to the wonderful teaching career and  humanitarian service of your father.  Derv was a teachers' teacher-a quiet effective leader.   He made an indelible mark which affected the lives of many.  We send our condolences and thanks for his (and your mother's) long and meaningful life.  Best wishes.

I knew Derv for many years as a volunteer. After he retired from teaching, he would come into my classroom and Irving School and teach science to my kids. He was so passionate about science and so patient with my 3rd graders. He was a wealth of knowledge and really knew how to communicate with the kids. I can remember the kids eagerly waiting for him to come. He will be missed! God bless him.
