ALFRED WIESEMAN

Mr. Alfred "Al" Wieseman, 94, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 1822 Wilmar Dr., died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday (May 26, 2005) in Blessing Hospital.

Born October 25, 1910 in Quincy, Al was the son of Ernst and Lenora Altenhein Wieseman. He married Alvera Rothgeb on June 4, 1936 in Chicago, IL. She died April 6, 1999.

Al was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ and Salem Brotherhood where he was well known for always selling the most soup supper tickets. He was a member of National Association of Federal Employees, AARP, Culver Stockton Parents Association, 50 year member of United Commercial Travelers, Farm Bureau, Adams County Electrical Co-Op and served on the Greenmount Cemetery Board. He was a 1928 graduate of Quincy High School and Gem City Business College. He played semi-pro ball with the Quincy Bluebirds and later pitched for the Fowler town team. He was an ardent bowler for more than 70 years captaining many championship teams at Turner Hall. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing and taking care of his yard. Al retired from the Quincy Post Office in 1970 after 33 years of service, the last 13 as Foreman of Mails. After his retirement Al and his wife traveled extensively in their travel trailer, traveling for 36 days by Gypsy Caravan into Mexico. They also made many trips to Colorado and Yellowstone. They traveled to Canada, especially enjoying trips to Banaff, Lake Louise, Winnipeg and Ottawa. For several years, Mr. and Mrs. Wieseman spent their winters in Brownsville, Texas. Al especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren attending their sports activities and encouraging them to get a college education.

Surviving is his son in law, Paul Shoemaker of Quincy; three grandchildren, Cynthia Ann Karl and her husband John of Franklin, TN., Terri Lynn Becker and her husband Paul of Vernon Hills, IL. and Tammi Sue Madden and her husband Patrick of Glen Ellyn, IL.; and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Lt. Jg. Donald who was killed in an air crash aboard the U.S.S. America in 1965; and his daughter, Marcia Shoemaker.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Wanda Seydel. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday evening from 3:00 until 6:00 and Tuesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
