ALYNE KESTNER

Mrs. Alyne "GG" Kestner, 95, of 2214 Hampshire, died at 3:46 p.m. Monday (June 6, 2005) in Blessing Hospital.

Born March 28, 1910 in Siloam Springs, Illinois, Alyne was the daughter of George Fred and Myrtle Johnson Kaylor. She married George F. Kestner on June 19, 1936. He died in 1994.

Alyne graduated from Clayton High School, Macomb State College in Macomb for two years and then taught all eight grades at Ashland Elementary School in Kellerville, the same school her father had taught at for 40 years. She later taught elementary school in Brown County until her marriage in 1936. She continued to substitute until she returned to teaching full-time in 1952. She joined the Camp Point school system as a fifth and sixth grade teacher in LaPrairie, later transferring to Kellerville and then to Maplewood School in CAmp Point. She finished her teching career at Central Junior High School teaching history and social sturdies. She retired in 1974.

Alyne was a member of Kellerville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. She was a member of Adams County Retired Teachers and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid gardener and loved nature, especially bird watching.

Surviving is her daughter in law, Shelba J. Kestner of Quincy; two grandchildren, George D. Kestner of Decatur and Lisa D. Gaughan and her husband Jeff, of Overland Park, KS.; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two nieces, Betty Yakle and her husband Jim, of Dunedin, FL. and June Mason of San Diego, CA.; and one nephew, Richard Kaylor and his wife Phyllis, of San Diego, CA.; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, George W. Kestner; two brothers, Everett R. and Lloyd M. Kaylor; and one sister, Nina Lewis.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Brant Vanhoosier. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.
