Alene Glessner passed from this life on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at 9:45 a.m. at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Born on June 16, 1936, in Hospers, Iowa, she was the first of two daughters born to the late John and Catherine Jantena ("Tena") VandenBrink Bergsma.  Her childhood  was spent on the farm with her parents and younger sister, Harriet.  She married Glenn Wayne Glessner in Sheldon, Iowa on January 29, 1953.  After the birth of their two daughters, the family moved to Brookfield, Missouri, where they lived for two years.  In June, 1957, they moved to Quincy, Illinois, where a son was born a few years later.

She was active in a Ham Radio Operators women's group and also participated in one of the Women's Circles of Central Baptist Church for many years where she sewed various items for needy children and women with breast cancer.

Alene was an exceptionally talented seamstress and sewed for family members and friends for many years.  She enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting, bird watching, family genealogy and cooking, but above all she loved her family, being with them and doing things for them.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn Glessner, of Quincy; a daughter, Connie Jean Glessner, of Asnières-sur-Seine, France; a daughter, Linda Kay and her husband Randall ("Randy") Wray Vallier, of Oreana, Illinois; a son, David Wayne and his wife, Irith Sharon (Zikel) Glessner, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and her grandchildren, Aidan Wayne Glessner and Gillian Marie Glessner, of Cedar Rapids.  She is also survived by two step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister.
