ARLENE M. SHIPE

Arlene M. Shipe, 85, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Payson, died at 8:26 a.m. Thursday (January 10, 2008) in Blessing Hospital.

Born September 19, 1922 in Payson, Arlene was the daughter of Arthur and Lona Seward Edmonds. She married Leo A. Shipe on August 31, 1946 in Adams County. He survives.

Mrs. Shipe was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and
Payson VFW Women's Auxillary. Arlene loved to fish, knit and especially loved growing African Violets.

Mrs. Shipe was a cook at Payson Grade School for many years until her retirement.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Shipe and his wife Emily of Evans, GA and Lonnie Shipe of Quincy; three daughters, Susie Stotts and her husband Kenny of Payson, Kathy Dietrich and her husband Leo of Quincy and Nancy McMahon of Tuscon, AZ; 11 grandchildren, Russell Shipe and his wife Missy, Andrea Baker and her husband Walter, Kimberly Stotts, Jeffrey Stotts and his wife Catrina, Tricia Dietrich, Jody Shipe, Jennifer Bordewick and her husband Mark, Joanna Shipe, Jacob Shipe, Mark McMahon and his wife Kelly and Erin McMahon; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Shipe was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Leanne Shipe in infancy, two brothers Ray and Elmo Edmonds and four sisters, Inez Scoville, Evelyn Schmelzle, Norma Duncan and Emma Edmonds in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson by the Rev. Richard Jeske. Burial will be in Payson New Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.
