ARTHUR W. "ART" PALMER
Mr. Arthur W. Palmer, 81, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 1305 Merle St., died at 10:36 a.m. Thursday (November 16, 2006) in Blessing Hospital.
Born April 10, 1925 in Peoria, Illinois, Arthur was the son of Rev. Elwin T. and Evelyn A. Jenkins Palmer. He married Betty J. Richmond on June 29, 1947.
Mr. Palmer was a graduate of Payson High School. He attended several major universities and obtained his Master's Degree from Western Illinois University. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America, Quincy Education Association and was past President of the State of Illinois Distributive Education Organization. Arthur served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII as a B-29 pilot flying eleven bombing missions in total.
Mr. Palmer was employed as a teacher in Payson High School for five years. He then taught and was dean of boys at Quincy High School for 27 years retiring in 1982.
Surviving is a daughter, Sharon L. McCallister of Houston, TX.; two sons, A. Wayne Palmer and his wife Lynn of Friendswood, TX. and Kent E. Palmer of Jacksonville, IL.; four grandchildren, Craig and Blake Palmer of Friendswood, TX., Shawn McCallister and his wife Elma of Corona, CA. and Heather McCallister of Houston,TX.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty.
Cremation rites were accorded to Mr. Palmer. Memorial services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Lou Zuck. Burial with military honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday afternoon from 12:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
