BETTY JANE BROOKS
Mrs. Betty Jane Brooks, 79, of 1013 N. Lyn Mar Drive, died at 6:37 p.m. Sunday (March 11, 2007) in Blessing Hospital.
Born February 7, 1928 in Bowen, Illinois, Betty was the daughter of Everett C. and Edith Dickhut Baker Veach. She married Henry E. Brooks on September 12, 1948 in Bowen, Illinois. He survives.
Betty was a member of Madison Park Christian where she had taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ever Ready Class. She had been active with the cub scouts and currently was a volunteer at Blessing Hospital. Betty enjoyed crafts, woodcarving, reading, attending the Quincy Park Band Concerts and loved to keep in touch with family and friends by sending letters and cards. Betty will be remembered for her warm smile and cheerful disposition.
Betty was employed for 17 years as a secretary for the Girl Scouts until her retirement in 1992.
Survivors include her husband, Henry; three sons, Dennis E. Brooks and his fiance' Bo Reich of Gainesville, FL., Charles Brooks and his wife Trina of Meredosia, IL. and Robert Brooks and his wife Dolores of Milan, IL.; two grandchildren, Sarah Brooks and Patrick Brooks both of Milan, IL.; a step brother, Harold Veach and his wife Ruth of Odessa, TX.; a step sister, Jean Green and her husband C.B. of Springfield, IL.; four nephews, William Tuey, Gene Tuey, Bruce Baker and Mark Baker ; and a niece, Pat Howard.
Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her parents; a step father, William Veach; a brother, Frank Baker; and three step brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Bruce Willard. Burial will be in Bowen Cemetery near Bowen.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home.
