
BRUCE WILLIAM HESTER
Mr. Bruce William Hester, 82, of 2510 Dennis Drive, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday (February 4, 2006) in Blessing Hospital.
Born July 11, 1923 in Camp Point, Bruce was the son of Otho and Bertha Knight Hester. He married Catherine Miller on November 4, 1945 in Port Orchard, Washington. She died April 9, 2002.
Bruce was of the Catholic Faith and a member of the South Side Boat Club. He enjoyed camping, fishing, attending drag racing meets with his sons and was an avid Blue Devil Basketball fan who loved following his great grandson, Justin Scott. He devoted his life to his family and enjoyed spending time with his friends, Joann, Smitty and especially his dear friends on Dennis Drive. Mr. Hester served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II.
Mr. Hester was a plumber in the Quincy area for over 50 years. He formerly owned and operated Hester Plumbing and Heating and then was a plumbing Inspector for the City of Quincy until his retirement in 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Donald and her husband Bill of Quincy; four sons, Terry Hester and Glenda of Campbell, TX., James Hester and his wife Sheila of Quincy, Ted Hester and his wife Jennifer of Collinsville, IL. and Larry Hester and his wife Joan of Quincy; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hester was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Catherine; a daughter, Connie Hester; and a brother, James Hester in infancy.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Boniface Catholic Church by the Rev. Jeff Holtman. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post 37 will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home. A Christian Wake Service will be held Tuesday evening at in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Quincy Humane Society or the American Lung Association.
