
CAROLE SCRANTON
Mrs. Carole Scranton, 64, of rural Liberty, died at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday (May 31, 2006) in Blessing Hospital.
Born April 6, 1942 in Beardstown, Illinois, Carole was the daughter of David W. and Helen R. Shepherd Shelton Sr. She married Richard L. Scranton on June 10, 1960 in Payson, Illinois. He survives.
Carole was a member of the Payson Congregational United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and was the choir director for many years. An accomplished musician, Carole loved to sing and play music, especially classical. She enjoyed cooking, painting, sewing, quilting and flower gardening, and will be remembered as a loving and caring lady who took care of everyone.
A 1960 graduate of Payson Seymour High School, Carole graduated from the Blessing Hospital School of Nursing in 1977. She was the first Certified Critical Care Nurse at Blessing Hospital and was employed as a special care nurse at Blessing Hospital and the Quincy Medical Group before she became an insurance agent for Woodmen Accident and Life Company. Carole later established and taught the Medical Assistant Program at Gem City Business College and was a physcians review nurse for CIMRO Co.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; two sons, Rick Scranton and his wife Rose of Westport, IN. and Tim Scranton and his fiance' Elaine Huston of Liberty; a daughter, Susan Kill and her husband Alan of St. Peters, MO.; twelve grandchildren, Cheyenne Rose Scranton, Samantha Sue Scranton and Brittany Wellman all of Westport, IN., Dustin Bergstrom of Sumner, IL., Joshua Ray Scranton and his wife Sacha, Brandon Parker Scranton, Jacob Lee Scranton all of Quincy, Michael Wayne Huston and Amber Lynn Huston both of Liberty, and Lindsay Desiree Kill, Lucas Alan Kill and Sydney Paige Kill all of St. Peters, MO.; two brothers, David W. Shelton Jr. of Payson and Richard E. Shelton and Vera of Jacksonville, FL.; five sisters, Nancy Kay Neill and her husband Owen of Monroe, MI., Sarah Griffith of Argenta, IL., Karen Heaton and her husband Gale of Middleton, IL., Wendy Gilbert and her husband James of Speedway, IN. and Lisa Anne Bornman and her husband Timothy of Indianapolis, IN.; a god child, Hanna Heinecke Blazel; and numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mrs. Scranton was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters in law, Cheryl Shelton and Joanne Tullock.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at the Payson Congregational United Church of Christ by Rev. Rick Welch. Burial will be in Burton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy and Saturday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the Payson Congregational Church.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Carole Scranton Scholarship Fund at Blessing- Rieman School of Nursing.
