
CHARLES H. DeVERGER
Mr. Charles H. "Charlie" DeVerger, 75, of 829 Harrison, died at 11:53 a.m. Saturday (July 9, 2005) in Blessing Hospital.
Born February 7, 1930 in Kinderhook, Illinois, Charlie was the son of Clifford and Lena Williams DeVerger. He married Ann Tate Murphy on September 10, 1970 in Peoria, Illinois. She survives.
Charlie was an avid fisherman and deer hunter and enjoyed camping, nature, gardening and growing all kinds of flowers. Most of all, he enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren,
and all of the children at Monroe School.
Mr. DeVerger served his country in the U. S. Army, stationed in Germany from 1948 to 1950 and then during the Korean Conflict, stationed in the St. Louis area from 1953 to 1956. He worked for many years as a truck driver and then as a custodian at Monroe School for many years. He retired in 1991.
Surviving is his wife, Ann; two sons, Terry DeVerger and his wife Ethel of Plainville, IL. and Larry DeVerger and his wife Brenda of Mt. Airy, GA.; a step son, R. Dan Murphy and his wife Priscilla of Peoria, IL.; a step daughter, Barb Grzelak and her husband John of Rockford, IL.; thirteen grandchildren, Dustin DeVerger and his wife Corine of Hannibal, MO., Eric DeVerger of Palmyra, MO., Tom DeVerger and Samantha Turner and her husband Phillip both of Mt. Airy, GA., Troy Murphy of Kernersville, NC., Anthony "Tony" Murphy and his wife Nicki of Metamora, IL., Dr. Terry Murphy of Cinncinati, OH., David Grzelak of Rockford, IL., Katy Cassady and her husband Tim of Rockford, IL., Ryan Murphy and Adam Murphy both of Rockton, IL., Dan Zanger of Plainville, IL. and Jeff Zanger and his wife Edna of Columbus, IL.; nine great grandchildren, Coleton, Olivia, Alexis, Gabrielle, Mackenzie, Sophia, Andrew, Amanda and Alex; three brothers, Carl DeVerger and Joyce of Plainville, IL. and Ray DeVerger and Marilyn and Bob DeVerger and Shelia both of Quincy; a sister, Mary Jo Harker of Quincy and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. DeVerger was preceded by his parents; a stepson, Dennis Murphy; a grandson, George DeVerger; a great grandson, Tad Murphy; two brothers, Ed DeVerger and Eugene DeVerger; and two sisters, Iva Hardy and Bertha Marie DeVerger.
Cremation rites were accorded to Mr. DeVerger. Memorial services will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Deacon R. Dan Murphy.
