CHARLES F. SCHWINDELER

Mr. Charles F. Schwindeler, 83 of 1729 Maple, died at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (February 26, 2005) at his home.

Born June 11, 1921 in Quincy, Charles was the son of Louis J. and Esther Y. Logan Schwindeler. He married Bernice Jensen in April of 1945. She died October 15, 1974. He then married Betty Ann Kerkhoff Newbanks on August 19, 1981. She survives.

Charles was a former member of the Eagles Lodge #100. He was always fixing things up and enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, fishing and dancing. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII receiving a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in the Anzio Campaign in Italy and a second Purple Heart for wounds sustained in the North African Campaign.

Mr. Schwindeler was employed by Premier Laundry for 35 years as a truck driver retiring in 1985.

Also surviving is a son, Marty Schwindeler and his wife Louise of Quincy; two step sons, George Newbanks V and his wife Mary of Quincy and Russell Newbanks and his wife Patricia of Shreveport, LA.; a step daughter, Therese Newbanks of Quincy; fourteen grandchildren, Mark Schwindeler and his wife Jeanna, Tina Chisholm and her husband Chris, George Newbanks VI, Elleina Glassford and her fiance' Bert Jefferies, Carlene Newbanks and David Linsner, all of Quincy, Russell Newbanks II and Nichole Newbanks and Brittany Sowards, all of SanAntonio, TX., and Alex Gigelo, Rebecca Gigelo, Kristen Gigelo, Samantha Newbanks and Cati Newbanks, all of Shreveport, LA.; three great grandchildren, Dylan Chisholm, Drew Chisholm and Connor Schwindeler, all of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Brian Schwindeler; one brother, Louis Schwindeler; and two sisters, Ruth A. Gilbert and infant sister Violet Schwindeler.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. James Riley. Burial with Militairy Honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home.
