
CHARLOTTE A. CHENEY
Mrs. Charlotte A. Cheney, 68, of Bowen, Illinois, died at 9:50 am Monday (December 7, 2009) in Bickford Cottage.
Born July 27, 1941 in Shelby County, Missouri, Charlotte was the daughter of Edward P. and Anna Christopher Woods. She married Richard G. Gastler in Wellsville, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1969. She married David L. Cheney on December 1, 1970 in Palmyra, Missouri. He survives.
Charlotte was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bowen where she served as church secretary and was a member of the Bowen American Legion Auxiliary. Active in her community, she served on the Southeastern School Board and the Bowen Village Board. Devoted to her family, Charlotte helped oversee the business operations of the family farm and loved to participate in her children's activites. Most recently her greatest joy came in babysitting for her grandchildren
Charlotte was employed as a bookkeeper for the grain elevator in Auxvasse, Missouri. After moving to Bowen, she was employed at Dittmer Tax Service and in the Accounting Department of Americana Seeds.
Survivors include her husband, David; a daughter, Davette Cameron and her husband Charles of Stillwater, OK; three sons, Richard H. Gastler and his wife Gayla of West Point, IL, Dana Cheney and his wife Paula of San Antonio, TX and Craig Cheney and his wife Leanne of Loraine, IL; four grandchildren, Kale Gastler and Andrew Gastler of West Point, IL, David P. Cheney and Hannah Cheney of San Antonio, TX; a brother, Don Woods and his wife Margaret of Auxvasse, MO; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cheney was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Richard; and a sister, Darlene Keller and her husband Carl.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in the Lutheran Church of St. John 3340 State St. Quincy by the Rev. Michael Grieve. Burial will be in the Bowen Cemetery in Bowen.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy and Friday morning from 9:00 until time of services at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville, MO; Alzheimer's Association or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
