In Memory David Eldon Sims
David E. Sims, of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and formerly of 2107 Cherry Lane Estates, a retired chemist, died Monday evening (Aug. 8,2005) in the Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo Calif.
David was born Dec. 25, 1921 in Burlington Iowa, the son of Hugh and Bess Bode Sims also long time Quincy residents. He married Norma Hillebrenner Dec. 25, 1942 in St. Louis who passed away Oct. 25, 1995.
David was a Quincy High School graduate and also a graduate of Quincy College in 1949 with a degree in Chemistry. He started work at Moorman's Manufacturing in 1953 in the chemistry department where he remained until his retirement. He was a member of the American Chemists Society and the Quality Control Association of America.
David was member of the Cedar Crest Country Club and Lambert Lodge No. 659. He was a Life Member Mason of 54 years and a Past Master of that lodge. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945 as a member of the #591 Construction Battallion (CB's) Maintenance Unit and arrived in the Marshall Islands at Majuro Atoll on June 4, 1944.
David was a member of the San Juan Capistrano Seniors Club of San Juan Capistrano.
David will be greatly missed by all his friends and family. He will always be remembered as the kind, generous, loving father and friend that he was throughout his life. Survivors include his son, Terry Sims and his wife Beverly Haney Sims of Oceanside, Calif. and his companion and best friend Ruth Wright of San Juan Capistrano.
A service and visitation was conducted for David on August 13, 2005 at the O'Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills, Calif. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois. A graveside memorial will be held for David Monday Oct. 3, 2005 from 2:00-3:00PM.
