DONALD JAYNES

Donald Jaynes, 78, of 9210 Columbus Road, Fowler, Illinois, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday (December 2, 2007) in his home.

Born July 29, 1929 in Quincy, Don was the son of Elva Raymond and Harriet Wolverton Jaynes. He married Dorothy Peterson on September 24, 1949 in Quincy. She survives.

Don was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee and was a member of the United Methodist Men. He enjoyed gardening and loved woodworking and was a member of the Woodworkers Guild.

Don began his career as a sign painter when he was 16 years old and purchased Gem City Sign Company which he operated until his retirement in 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Mary Ivey and her husband Hugh of Atlanta, GA. and Teresa Dawson and her husband Mitchell of Des Moines, IA.; two sons, William "Bill" Jaynes and his wife Linda of Fowler and David Jaynes and his wife Annette of Carbondale, IL.; eight grandchildren, Jami Ivey, Dana Ivey, Drew Ivey, Jessica Dawson, Bryce Dawson, Abby-Jaye Dawson, Paige Jaynes and Allison Jaynes; a great granddaughter, Mickinzy King; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jaynes was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Eleanor Huechteman.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Steve Livengood. Entombment will be in the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Thursday until the time of services at the funeral home.
