DOROTHY BLAKE

Mrs. Dorothy Blake, 92, of Olivette, Missouri, formerly of 102 Seymour Street in Payson, died at 7:00 a..m. Tuesday (July 17, 2007) in the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.

Born August 4, 1914 in New Hartford, Illinois, Dorothy was the daughter of Claude J. and Elfie Dillender Shinn. She married Wesley Shaw Blake on October 2, 1936 in Jacksonville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1984.

Dorothy was a member of the Payson United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. Dorothy was also a Girl Scout Brownie Leader, a 50 year member of the Payson Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Adams County Home Extension and Great River Genealogical Society. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, restoring and dressing dolls, repairing and refinishing antique furniture with her husband and sewing and making quilts which she gave to many of her friends. Dorothy was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her family.

A graduate of Pittsfield High School, Dorothy was employed at the Pittsfield Shoe Factory and later as a Nurses Aid at St. Mary Hospital and Blessing Hospital until her retirement in 1972.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Louise Hughson of Davison, MI.; two granddaughters, Leanne Lusgarten and her husband Eli of Olivette, MO. and Rosemary Burt of Clio, MI.; five great grandchildren, Alexander and Samuel Lustgarten and Erik, Timothy and Lance Burt; a brother, Lawrence Shinn of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Blake was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Rosalee Humphrey; two brothers, Clyde Shinn and Russell Shinn; and a sister, Rosemary Bupp.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy by the Rev. Stacy Tomich. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at the funeral home.
