DOROTHY M. ERNST

Dorothy M. Ernst, 95, of Sunset Home, died at 2:42 a.m. Sunday (April 9, 2006) in the home.

Born August 16, 1910 in Camp Point, Illinois, Dorothy was the daughter of Lloyd L. and Jessie Frederick Bricker. She married Elmer E. Ernst on December 26, 1938 in Pittsfield, IL. He died October 25, 1967.

Dorothy was a member of Vermont St. United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Blessing Hospital Alumni Association and the Illinois League of Municipal Employees.

Mrs. Ernst was a graduate of Camp Point High School and then graduated from the Blessing Hospital School of Nursing in 1931. From 1932 until 1940 Dorothy was with the Quincy Visiting Nurse Service and then was employed as a Public Health Nurse for the Adams County Health Department for 16 years, retiring in 1974.

Surviving is her daughter, Kay Hood of Ft. Collins, CO.; two grandchildren, Kristopher Hood of Durango, CO. and Kary. Hood of Sacramento, CA.; four nephews, Ted Bricker and his wife Kathy of Sarasota, FL., Tom Bricker of Portland, OR., Steve Bricker and his wife Joyce of Frankfort, IL. and Mike Ernst of Quincy; four nieces, Sue Harris of Sherman Oaks, CA., Jan Rosenthal and her husband Marvin of Henderson , NV., Kathy Sheeron and her husband John of Long Island, NY. and Pat Laytham and her husband Dave of Quincy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and infant daughter; a son in law, Kenneth Hood; a sister, Eva B. Criswell; and two brothers, Rollin and Denzel Bricker.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Lou Zuck. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.
