DOROTHY FAY THYSON

Dorothy Fay Thyson, 87, of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, formerly of Quincy, died at 6:40 a.m. Thursday (October 25, 2007) in Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Born May 17, 1920 in Loraine, Illinois, Dorothy was the daughter of Floyd E. and Charlotte Fry Adair. She married Wendell Gene "Bud" Thyson on April 8, 1955 in Loraine, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2000.

Dorothy was a member of the Illinois Education Association, National Education Association and the Quincy Education Association where she had served as Secretary, the ADK Teacher's Sorority and had been active with the Washington School PTA. She was a former member of the Loraine Christian Church and a former Past Worth Matron of the Loraine Chapter 856 Order of Eastern Star. After moving to Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Dorothy loved to participate in the resident activities and also served as Vice President and Secretary on the Maple Lawn Resident Council.

A graduate of Western Illinois University with a Master's Degree in Education, Dorothy began her teaching career in one room schools in Adams County before becoming an elementary teacher for the Quincy Public Schools for 20 years until her retirement.

Surviving is a daughter, Wendy Fay Thyson of Quincy; two sisters in law, Sadie Beaudet of Sun City West, AZ. and Kathleen Adair of Belleville, IL.; a niece, Laura Adair and her husband Erik Moorhead of Grapevine, TX.; three nephews, Doug Schroeder and his wife Lori and Michael Schroeder and his wife Cheryl both of Quincy and Dr. Dan Adair and his wife Nancy of Springfield, IL.; and many loving great nieces and great nephews.

Mrs. Thyson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Floyd L. Adair; and a niece, Nancy Adair-Sasa.

Friends are invited to meet with the family Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.

Private family graveside services will be held at a later date in Greenmount Cemetery by Elder Larry Lamb.
