
DOROTHY WILCOX
Dorothy Fern Riutzel Wilcox, 89, of 1122 Kochs Lane, formerly of #21 Spring Lake Country Club, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday (November 4, 2007) at Blessing Hospital on her 68th Wedding Annivesary.
Born November 9, 1917 in Columbus, Illinois, Dorothy was the daughter of Clifford H. and Mary Gertrude Balsar Riutzel. She married Roy D. Wilcox on November 4, 1939 in the Cathedral of St. John in Quincy. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1996.
Dorothy has been a member of the First Christian Church since 1934. She graduated from Quincy High School and the Quincy College of Music in 1936. She studied and taught piano under Lulu M. Felt and became the organist for the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd at 12th and Maine. Dorothy was a Girl Scout leader, a 50 year member of Grace Whipple Chapter #312 Order of the Eastern Star, Grand Cross of Color of Rainbow Girls, Adams County Republican Womens Club and Spring Lake Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf for over 50 years. She and her husband Roy had enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona for 20 years.
Dorothy had been employed at Moorman Manufacturing for three years until her marriage in 1939.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia W. Wiltshire and her husband C. Thomas of Canton, Missouri, and Janet L. Hoffmann and her husband Thomas K. of Carbondale, IL; six grandchildren, Robert D. Wiltshire and his wife Linda of Leawood, Kansas, Michelle Bouchard and her husband Fred of Harrisonville, Missouri, R. Daniel Wiltshire and his wife Jayne of Lee's Summit, Mo, Bethany Wiltshire and her husband Dave Breen of Oregon, Illinois, Thomas K. Hoffmann II and his wife Colleen of Carbondale, Illinois, Wendy L. McClanahan and her husband Brian of Elkville, Illinois; 11 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Trevor, Brandi, Kahluna, and Faizol Bouchard all of Harrisonville, Missouri; Laura Wiltshire of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Nichole Danielle Kline and her husband Brian of St. Louis, Missouri, Heather Lynn Hoffmann and Justin Thomas K. Hoffmann both of Carbondale, Illinois, Brian D. McClanahan II and Baylie Dayle McClanahan both of Elkville, Illinois; three sisters-in-law Jean Riutzel of Quincy, Illinois, Catherine Wilcox of Decatur, Illinois and Jane Wilcox of Johnston, Iowa; a brother in law, Charles J. Gibbs of Quincy; two nephews and five nieces.
Mrs. Wilcox was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son Richard Dale Wilcox; two great-grandsons; two brothers Dale and Marion Riutzel; and one sister G. Irene Mosena; and two nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 in the First Christian Church by the Rev. Joby Brown. Inurnment will follow in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 noon until time of services at 1:30 p.m. at First Christian Church. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
