ELAINE D. BRISCOE

Mrs. Elaine D. Briscoe, 84, of the North Adams Home in Mendon, formerly of 818 South 20th, died at 10:07 p.m. Tuesday (April 5, 2005) in Blessing Hospital.

Born August 11, 1920 in Quincy, Elaine was the daughter of Clifford and Bertha Klapprott Miller. She married Whitby Briscoe Sr. on August 14, 1938 in Keokuk, Iowa. He died October 19, 1990.

Elaine was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and enjoyed crafts and needlework. She was active as a volunteer at Adams School from 1991 to 2000 and was honored with an award in 1994 by R. E. A. D. S. (Retirees Educating and Assisting in the Development of Students) which was presented to her by Illinois First Lady, Brenda Edgar. She also received a certificate of recognition from the Key Women Educators of Delta Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International of Illinois, Lambda State Organization. In May of 2000, she was presented an Honorary Life Membership in the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers. Mrs. Briscoe devoted her life to her family and cherished the time she spent with them.

Survivors include two sons, Whitby W. Briscoe and his wife Pat and Roger K. Briscoe and his wife Patsy both of Quincy; seven grandchildren, Kelly Bennett and her husband Randy of Beaver Creek, OH., Angie Lakian and her husband Mark of Comstock Park, MI., Lori Maynard and her husband John of Aubrey, TX.. Tim Briscoe and his wife Jolene of Quincy, Wayne Althoff of Chicago, Brenda Mathews and her husband Van of North Richland Hills, TX. and Brian Althoff and his wife Jamie of Springfield, IL.; eight great grandchildren, David Bennett, Adam Bennett, Hunter Maynard, Autumn Maynard, Dillon Maharry, Tyler Briscoe, Cara Briscoe, and Gabriella Mathews; a brother, William F. Miller and his wife Marsha of Lake Ozark, MO.; a sister, Della Gill and her husband Jay of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Briscoe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and a sister in infancy.

Funeal services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Timothy White. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 and Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home.
