
FRED WERNETH
Mr. Frederick P. "Fred" Werneth, 83, of 3790 Highway P, Maywood, Missouri, died at 2:10 p.m. (March 30, 2005) in Blessing Hospital
Born August 23, 1921 in Quincy, Fred was the son of Fred B. and Addie A. Whitaker Werneth. He married Eugenia R. Barber in Chicago, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 18, 1949. He married Rosemary C. Finigan on June 13, 1953 in St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy. She survives.
Mr. Werneth was affiliated with TheWay International, a non-denominational research, teaching and fellowhip ministry. He was a former member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge and V. F. W. Fred was an avid lover of camping and traveled throughout the country with his wife, residing in Chandler, AZ., Charleston and Greenville, S. C., Gulfport, MS. and Orlando, FL. before moving to New Knoxville, Ohio, where they worked on staff at The Way International Ministries Headquarters.
Mr. Werneth was a graduate of Quincy College Academy. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during WW II in the Pacific Island Campaign as a gunners mate aboard the troop transport SS Zeilin.
Mr. Werneth was employed for 37 years by Illinois SBC Telephone Company as a repair testman. He also served as President of the Illinois Bell Pioneers for two years.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; three sons, James A. Werneth and his wife Theresa of Quincy, Frederick J. Werneth and his wife Nancy of North Yarmouth, ME. and Samuel Lee Werneth and his wife Tammy of Merritt Island, FL., five daughters, Carol A. Sass and her husband James, Mary Lou "M. L." Werneth and Annette M. Chatten all of Quincy, Cynthia S. "Cindy" Harness and her husband Gary of Moline, IL. and Jacalyn K. "Jackie" Murry and her husband John of Maywood, MO.; 16 grandchildren, Christian Sass and his wife Allison of Elgin, IL., Sarah Sass, John M. Lang and his wife Tonja, Amanda Roberts and her husband Doug, Amy J. Phelps and her husband William, Robert A. Chatten, Aaron K. Werneth and Andrea R. Chatten all of Quincy, Jamie L. Worthington of Mexico, MO., Casey K. Branch and her husband Richard of Hagerstown, MD., Kevin M. Harness and Brian R. Harness both of Moline, IL., Alicia A. Werneth of Maryville, IL., Hannah Werneth of North Yarmouth, ME., Spencer S. Werneth of Merritt Island, FL.and Preston Werneth of Warner Robbins, GA.; 14 great grandchildren, Edward , John Michael, Emma, Collin, Jake, Jacob, Kyle, Trey, Kaitlin, Kaleigh, Charlotte, Emily, Libby and James Curtis; a sister, Lou Ann Grady and her husband Jim of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Werneth was preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren, Cherie Sass, Carrie Bence and Anna Marie Werneth; and a twin brother, Ferd J. Werneth.
Cremation rites were accorded to Mr. Werneth. Memorial services with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Tom Horrocks. Private inurnment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Quincy.
Visitation will be Saturday afternoon from 12:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.
