GEORGE A. DAVIS

Mr. George A. Davis, 96, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Payson, died at 8:55 a.m. Saturday (March 26, 2005) at the home.

Born May 30, 1908 in Payson, George was the son of Alfred and Mary A. Noeller Davis. He married Mildred Lease on April 11, 1931 in Quincy. She survives.

Mr. Davis was a lifetime member of Payson United Methodist Church. He was a 1926 graduate of Seymour High School in Payson and was the last living member of his class. He loved being outdoors and working in the garden. He was a wonderful father who was devoted to his family and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

George farmed most of his life in the Payson area until his retirement in 1970 when he and his wife Mildred moved to Payson. He then served as custodian at the Payson Congregational Church for 13 years.

Also surviving are three daughters, Doris Vahle and her husband Robert of Quincy, Diane Garner and her husband Russell of Barry, and Joyce Stephens and her husband Richard of Quincy; two sons, George Neil Davis and his wife Patricia of Quincy, and Jon Rae Davis and his wife Charlet of Springfield, MO.; 22 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edgar and Austin Davis; and three sisters, Alma and Rose Davis and Elsie Wright.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson by Rev. Ron Cox. Burial will be in the Payson New Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home in Payson.
