GEORGE F. BILLINGS SR.

Mr. George F. Billings Sr., 83, of 2217 Rainbow Ln., died at 4:07 p.m. Saturday (January 28, 2006) in Blessing Hospital.

Born August 6, 1922 in Quincy, George was the son of Warren and Ida Robertson Billings. He married Rosalie Hudson on April 25, 1945 in Quincy. She survives.

Mr. Billings was a member of the First Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing and bowling. He especially enjoyed playing cards and pool with his friends at the Senior Citizen Center and the Casino Lanes in the afternoons. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was also an avid Cub Baseball fan. George served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII receiving a Purple Heart when his ship , the USS Bismarck was blown up in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He also had five brothers who served in WWII.

He was a self employed skilled cabinet builder and refinisher for over 40 years retiring in 1998.

Also surviving are two sons, George Billings Jr. and his wife Jean of Payson and Tom Billings of Quincy; two grandchildren, Brock Billings and his wife Misti of Hull, IL. and Angie Hughes and her husband Matt of Hamilton, MO.; four great grandchildren, Weston Billings and Easton Billings, both of Hull and Derrick Hughes and Devan Hughes, both of Hamilton, MO.; two brothers, Bill Billings of Quincy and Ab Billings of Quincy; two sisters, Lorean Marshall of Quincy and Babbs Steele of LaClaire, IA.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bee Stephen; three brothers, David, Art and Jim Billings; and a half brother, Bob Jeffries.

Graveside services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 in Greenmount Cemetery by Rev. Joby Brown.

There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the graveside services.

Memorials may be made to the Senior Citizen Center.
