
GEORGE F. COOKSON
Mr. George F. Cookson, 90, of North Adams Home, formerly of 4818 Sunview Dr., was called by the Lord to go to his heavenly home at 11:28 p.m. Thursday (August 17, 2006).
George came into this world December 23, 1915 the son of Charles Lewis and Leona Bell Daggett Cookson in Kellerville, IL. On July 9, 1934 in Carthage, IL he married Norma Lillian Bradley. She preceded him home June 15, 2006 after enjoying 72 years together.
George was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He and his wife had spent many years traveling with their Holiday Rambler Trailer Club. He also loved to garden and was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years, teaching his children and grandchildren how to hunt and fish. He and his wife showed Palomino Parade Horses for many years and belonged to The Quincy Saddle Club, of which he was president several years. He will truly be missed by his children and grandchildren but we know he was ready to be with his Lord and his wife.
Mr. Cookson retired from Electric Wheel Division of Firestone in 1977 after 34 years of service.
Also surviving are three daughters, Barbara Joann Ellerbrock and her husband Max, Mary Ellen Tipton and her husband Robert M. and Nancy Karen Campbell and her husband Denny, all of Quincy; two sons, Robert L. "Bobby" Cookson and his wife Jeannen of Quincy and George F. Cookson Jr. and his wife Lori of Dow, IL..; ten grandchildren, Paula Ludwig of Flat Rock, MI., Bob Cookson of Quincy, Robin L. Porter of Edwardsville, IL., Randy M. Ellerbrock and his wife Beth of Clayton, Tammie E. Cramm and her husband Kevin of Mendon, Rob Tipton and his wife Naomi of Quincy, D. Casey Campbell and his wife Sue of Camp Point, Lee Campbell and his wife Shelley of Quincy, Christine Goggins and her husband Nick of Quincy and Jay C. Cookson and his wife Kelly, of Hannibal, MO.; eighteen great grandchildren; eleven great great grandchildren; a brother, William "Bill" Cookson of Quincy; two sisters, Willia Bryson and her husband Charles of Marcelline, IL. and Wilma Cannon of Quincy; seven sisters in law, Irene Cookson, Dolores Cookson, Kay Cookson, Mary Cookson and Lucille Cookson, all of Quincy, Dorothy Cookson of White Fish Bay, WI. and Janie Bradley of Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cookson was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; seven brothers, Orin, Orville, James, Raymond, Melvin, John and Kenneth Cookson; two sisters, Vivian Eaton and N. Maxine Myers; and a daughter in law, Shirley Cookson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church by Rev. Larry Troxel. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 until the time of services at the church.
Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or North Adams Home.
