
GEORGE "JACK" GREIFER
Mr. Jack Greifer, 84, of 707 N. 14th St., died at 1:35 a.m. Monday (June 12, 2006) in Blessing Hospital.
Born January 5, 1922 in Quincy, Jack was the son of George and Odelia Bessling Greifer Sr. He married Bernetta "Bernie" Finigan on Augusta 28, 1954 at St. Francis Church in Quincy. She survives.
Mr. Greifer was a member of St. Francis Church, Quincy American Legion Post #37 and the Disabled American Veterans. He graduated from Quincy College Academy and attended Niagra University. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII seeing action in the Philippines and Okinawa receiving two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Battle Stars.
Jack was associated with his father in the men's clothing business at Schwartz Clothing Store in Quincy. He later worked in various sales positions throughout Quincy.
Also surviving are two sons, Cliff Greifer and his wife Lynn of Inverness, IL. and Curt Greifer and his wife Marcia of Naperville, IL.; five grandsons, Matt Greifer of Schaumberg, IL., Tim Greifer of Plainfield, IL., Brian and Ben Greifer, both of Inverness, IL. and Travis Parton of Naperville, IL.; two sisters, Sister Mary Delores of Donaldson, IN. and Dorothy Owens of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 in St. Francis Catholic Church by Rev. Tom Shaughnessy. Burial with Military Honors conducted by Payson V.F.W. Post #2061 will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday morning at 8:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with a prayer service at 9:30.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Church or the Jim and Peggy Finigan Scholarship Fund for Notre Dame High School.
