GERALD SCHAFFER

Mr. Gerald Henry William Schaffer, 67, of 1006 South 20th, formerly of 1519 Manor Hill Drive, died at 2:20 a.m. Monday (June 12, 2006) at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Born October 25, 1938 in Quincy, Jerry was the son of Arthur and Ruth Feld Schaffer. He married Jo Gravitt on July 17, 1965 in Mexico. She survives.

Jerry was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ and the International Association of Aerospace Workers Local 822. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and having coffee with his friends at Hardee's.

A graduate of Quincy High School and Washington University in St. Louis, Jerry was employed as a welder in heavy assembly for Gardner Denver Company for 30 years until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Jo; three daughters, Pamela Hess and her husband Ed of Palmyra, MO., Terri Arnsman and her husband Doug and Windi Damon and her husband Joe both of Quincy; seven grandchildren, Zack Hess, Mackenzy Hess and Emily Brown and her husband Andy all of Palmyra, MO. and Brad "Ian" Gabel and his wife Melissa, Chloe Arnsman, Taylor Arnsman and Danyel Damon all of Quincy; two great grandchildren, Taegen Gabel and Brayden Gabel both of Quincy; two brothers, James Schaffer and his wife Terry of Emden, MO. and Arthur Schaffer with Myriam Pelly of St. Louis, MO.; two sisters, Janice Schaffer of Quincy and Janet Crabill and her husband Lee of Ewing, MO.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Schaffer was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gerald Bradley Schaffer; and a brother, Terry Schaffer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Kenn Leischner. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 and Thursday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
