
GEORGE STANLEY RICHARDS
Mr. George Stanley Richards, 89, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Aurora, IL., died at 12:14 p.m. Monday (October 17, 2005) at the home.
Born November 30, 1915 in Wayne City, IL., George was the son of William and Eva Petticord Richards. He married Bernadine Watson on December 12, 1945 in Amherst, MA. She died July 17, 2001.
George enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting and was a member of the Barber Green Hunting and Fishing Club. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII receiving the Area Medal with one star and the African European Medal with one star.
Mr. Richards was employed as a machine shop supervisor for the Barber Greene Company in Aurora from 1946 until his retirement in 1980.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry Richards and Tom Richards, both of Aurora, IL.; two grandchildren, Keith Alan Brown of Chicago, IL. and Shawna Cox of Montgomery, IL.; one great granddaughter, Jodie Cox of Montgomery, IL.; two brothers, Walter Richards and his wife Dorothy of Streator, IL. and Herbert Richards of Geneva, IL.; and two sisters, Glenda Fankhouser and her husband Charlie of Napa, CA., Betty Kay and her husband Ivan of Aurora, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Noel, Leonard and Obed Richards; and three sisters, Blanche Taylor, Bessie Petnuinas and Ruth in infancy.
Cremation rites were accorded to Mr. Richards. A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday (November 20, 2005) at 2:00 p.m. at the Aurora AMVets, 1194 Jericho Road in Aurora, IL.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in the River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia, IL.
