
GILBERT L. FAUBLE
Mr. Gilbert L. "Gil" Fauble, 76, of 2307 Hampshire, died at 3:48 p.m. Saturday (February 17, 2007) in Bickford Cottages.
Born May 24, 1930 in New Boston, Illinois, Mr. Fauble was the son of Elmer and Jennie Mealman Fauble. He was raised in Keithsburg, Illinois and was a 1948 graduate of Keithsburg High School. He attended Western Illinois University and while a student there met Crescentia "Chris" Proske. They were married on February 25, 1951 and settled in Quincy where he was employed by the DEB Shoe Store. Mr. Fauble later became the Midwest District Manager for the Fashion Thimble Shoe Company.
Mr. Fauble founded the Fauble Insurance Agency in 1960 and joined Northwestern Mutual Life in 1964. He was District Agent for 14 years and acheived the National Quality Award for many years. His daughter, Janis, joined him at the Agency located at 522 Vermont in 1986. Mr. Fauble recently celebrated his 43rd Anniversary with the company.
Active in many facets of the Insurance Industry, Mr. Fauble served as Federal and State Legislative Chairman of the Western Illinois Chapter of Life Underwriters Association and was a charter member of the Executive Board of the Western Illinois Health Systems for 3 years.
A longtime member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, Mr. Fauble served as Past Treasurer of the Church Council, Past President of the Salem Couples Club and was active in other church committees throughout the years. He was Past President and a member of the Greenmount Cemetery Association Board of Directors, and was a former member of Toastmasters, Quincy Noon Optimist Club, and a Past President of the Illiamo Estate Planning Council. He was elected to and served on the Adams County Board for six years.
He was a member of the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce serving on the Legislative Committee for 15 years and President in1988. He served on the Executive Board of the Saukee Area Council of Boy Scouts for over 20 years and was President in 1991. Mr. Faulbe was honored as the recipient of the distinguished Silver Beaver Award in 1994.
Mr. Fauble was a member of Herman Masonic Lodge No. 39, Elks Lodge No. 100, the Tree Farm Association and the Quincy Country Club. His greatest joy came in the time he spent with his family, especially the times spent at the family farm in McKee Township. He demonstrated his work ethic by developing and maintaining the farm for the enjoyment of future generations.
Survivors include his wife, Chris; three daughters, Marcia Wentzel and her husband Rev. Larry and Janis Terry and her husband Michael both of Quincy and Julie Pribble and her husband Doug of Littleton, CO.; two sons, David Fauble and his wife Betsy Bier and Dr. Curtis Fauble and his wife Kathy both of Quincy; eleven grandchildren, Daniel Rowell, Jeanette Coleman and her husband Chris, Joe BierFauble, Meghan Terry, Jeffrey Terry, Jacob Terry, Kadi Fauble, Andrew Fauble, Clare Pribble, Danielle Moss and her husband Daxton and Michaelea Masterson; three great grandchildren, Richard James Coleman, Gabrielle Moss and Isabelle Moss; two brothers, Walter Fauble and his wife Charlotte of Moline, IL. and John Fauble of Ft. Myers, FL.; two sisters, Bonnie Whitehall and her husband Floyd of Orion, IL. and Ida McCully and her husband Leo of Black Canyon City, AZ.; and many loving nieces and nephews.Mr. Fauble was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
Mr. Fauble was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Clarence, Charles, Art and Jack Fauble; and two sisters, Zola Nylin and Betty Chapman.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ by the Rev. Wanda Seydel and the Rev. Larry Wentzel. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Thursday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at Salem Church.
