
HAROLD D. "Mac" McELWEE
Mr. Harold D. "Mac" McElwee, 85, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 1612 Cedar, died at 3:04 p.m. Sunday (March 13, 2005) at Blessing Hospital.
Born May 17, 1919 in Palmyra, Missouri, Mr. McElwee was the son of M. A. and Elva Slates McElwee. He married Mildred F. "Mickey" Perry on July 26, 1941 in Hannibal, Missouri. She survives.
Mac was a member of Central Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms and was an avid fisherman. Mr. McElwee served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II, receiving three Bronze Stars for action in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Mr. McElwee was a loving and devoted family man and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
Mac was employed as a mechanic and foreman for Selby Implement Company for 33 years until his retirement in 1984.
Surviving is his wife, Mildred; a son Perry McElwee and his wife Lenore of Camp Point, IL.; four grandchildren, James Dean McElwee and his wife Stephanie of Kansas City, MO., Randy Dean McElwee and his wife Angie of Monmouth, IL., Teri DeAnn McElwee of Quincy, IL. and Susan Lynn Stopher of Camp Point, IL.; three great grandchildren, Cherokee Rose Stopher and Isaiah Thomas McElwee both of Camp Point, IL. and Josie Marie McElwee of Monmouth, IL.; a step great grandchild, Stormy Rose Gonzales of Kansas City, MO.; a brother, Roy McElwee and his wife Earlene of Taft, TX.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. McElwee was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Burl McElwee; and a sister, Mayme Abell.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in Central Baptist Church by Dr. Charles Baker. Burial with military honors by Bear Creek American Legion Post will be in New Providence Cemetery near Ursa.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Thursday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at Central Baptist Church.
