HAROLD E. SCHIMDT

Mr. Harold E. Schmidt, 59, of 304 E. Edwards, Payson, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday (September 13, 2005) in his home.

Born October 22, 1945 in Quincy, Harold was the son of Eugene Carl and Mary Florence Knuffman Schmidt. He married Mary Evelyn Kurfman on June 10, 1967 at St. Brigid's Church in Liberty. She survives.

Harold was a member of St. Anthony Church, Plainville Lions Club, founding officer of Payson Education Foundation and held a private pilots license. He was also a past member of the Payson School Board, Payson Town Board and the Payson Volunteer Fire Department. Harold enjoyed flying, operating his machinery, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He served his country in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Schmidt and his wife started Hesco Petroleum in 1988 which he was still actively involved with until his death.

Also surviving is his mother, Mary Florence Schmidt of Payson; three daughters, Angela Schmidt of Payson, Carla Trautvetter and her husband Steven of Quincy and Gina Sheurman and her husband Corey of Payson; four grandchildren, Lindi, Tyler and Alex Trautvetter, all of Quincy and Dalton Sheurman of Payson; one sister, Virginia Vahle and her husband Maurice of Payson; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father; his father in law and mother in law, Emil and Mary Kurfman; and a brother in law, James Kurfman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at St. Anthony Church by Rev. Tom Hagstrom, Rev. Irenaeus Kimminau and Rev. Don Knuffman. Burial with military honors conducted by the Payson V.F.W. Post #2061 will be held in Payson New Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy. A parish prayer service will be held Friday evening at 4:00 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Wings of Hope or the Payson New Cemetery Association.
