HAZEL M. LEEDS
Mrs. Hazel M. Leeds, 93, of Kankakee, Illinois, formerly of Quincy, died at 3:50 p.m. Thursday (September 7, 2006) in the Miller Center Nursing Home in Kankakee.
Born November 8, 1912 in Pike County, Illinois, Hazel was the daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth VanHyning Constable. She married William H. Leeds on Sept. 21, 1929, at Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1955.
Mrs. Leeds had a great love of nature & enjoyed walking & being outside whenever possible. She was an artist & had written many books & short stories.
Mrs. Leeds was employed for many years as housekeeper for Howard Kreider of Barry & later worked at the Christian Shelter Home in Quincy.
Surviving are a son, James Leeds of Pekin, IL.; three daughters, Ruby
Riefesel of Hannibal, MO., Joanna Wyatt and her husband Wayne of Joplin,
MO., and Alice Schrodt of Kankakee, IL.,;t 23 grandchildren; 40 great
grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Leeds was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Florine Middleton; a son, Herman Leeds; 2 sons in law, Herb Riefesel and Marland Middleton; 2 daughters in law, Joan Leeds and Shirley Leeds; 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Mike Price. Burial will be in the Samuel Taylor Cemetery in Rockport, IL.
Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
