HAZEL I. McCOLEZ

Mrs. Hazel I. McColez, 76, of 302 South Franklin, Columbus, Illinois, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday (January 11, 2007) in the emergency room of Blessing Hospital.

Born April 29, 1930 in Quincy, Hazel was the daughter of George and Frances Marsh Emery. She married Terrel McColez on March 19, 1949 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1997.

Hazel attended school in Quincy and was employed at Motorola as an assembler for many years. She retired in 1970.

Hazel enjoyed reading, puzzles, gardening, roller skating and fishing and cherished the time she spent with her family.

Survivors include four daughters, Rita McColez of Columbus, Billie Ann Pipkin and her husband Sam of Quincy and Marty McColez and Denna McColez both of Hannibal, MO.; three sons, F. Michael McColez and his wife Debra, Phillip McColez and his wife Vicki and Kenneth McColez and his wife Stacie all of Quincy; 13 grandchildren, Billie Heidecker and her husband Paul, Delores Barajas and her husband David, Anthony McColez and his wife Tanya, Timothy McColez, Thomas McColez, Jeremy Pipkin, Briana Cookson, Samuel Pipkin, Amanda Pipkin, Tristan McColez, Tori McColez, Jeffry McColez and his wife Angie and Erin Reel and her husband Brad; 16 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; 5 step great great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Emery and his wife Norma of Phoenix, AZ.; two sisters, Norma L. McKenzie of Camp Point and Barbara J. Willing and her husband Michael of Columbus; a brother in law, Dewie Walker of Quincy; two sisters in law, Frances Watson and Betty McColez both of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. McColez was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terrel in infancy; and a sister, Grace Walker.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. David Barta.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday until the time of services at the funeral home.

Cremation rites will be accorded to Mrs. McColez following the services and private inurnment will be held in Greenmount Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
