
JACK M. SLEE
Mr. Jack M. Slee, 78, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 101 Waterford West Drive, Quincy, died at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday (May 5, 2009) in the Illinois Veterans Home.
Born October 6, 1930 in Ft. Madison, Iowa, Jack was the son of Merle and Millie Randolph Slee. He married Virginia Cattle on June 12, 1954 in Ft. Madison, Iowa. She survives.
Jack was a member of Union United Methodist Church and the American Pharmacists Association. An avid amateur photographer, he was a member of Photo Society of America, Quincy Photo Society and Hannibal Photo Society. Jack enjoyed Big Band music and Ballroom Dancing and loved the outdoors, especially canoeing. He and his wife, Virginia made many Mississippi river canoe trips from Quincy to Hannibal. Jack was also a proud grandpa and loved to follow his granchildren's activities.
A 1948 graduate of Ft. Madison High School, Jack then served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1958, Jack graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and moved to Quincy where he was a Registered Pharmacist at Brown Drug Store until his retirement in 1997. Jack also worked as a substitute pharmacist for many area pharmacies over the years.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; two sons, David Slee and his wife Kathy and Bob Slee and his wife Teresa both of Quincy; two daughters, Marilyn Osterhaus and her husband Matt of Maquoketa, IA and Debbie Broerman and her husband Greg of Kenosha, WI; fifteen grandchildren, Will Uppinghouse and his wife Heather, Ryan Slee and his wife Candace, Jessie Kamm and her husband Cory, Nathan Slee and his wife Missy, Jordan Slee and his wife Shannon, Jenna Slee, Joseph Slee and Samantha Slee all of Quincy, Andrew Osterhaus and his wife Joelle and Jack Osterhaus both of Iowa City, IA, Maria Scott and her husband Bobby of Ames, IA, Laura Osterhaus of Maquoketa, IA, and John Broerman, Alison Broerman and Kate Broerman all of Kenosha, WI; four great grandchildren, Gaby Wagner, Gavin Slee, Connor Kamm and Cooper Kamm; two brothers, Jim Slee and his wife Audrey of Vero Beach, FL and Jerry Slee and his wife Dinah of Muscatine, IA; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Slee was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 in the Union United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Morwell. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post 37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Monday until the time of services at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Union United Methodist Church.
