
JOVETA FRANCIS MYERS
Joveta "Jack" Myers, 88, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 623 South 21st St., died at 1:55 a.m. Monday (March 4, 2008) in the home.
Born June 15, 1919 in Wyaconda, MO, Jack was the son of Jessie and Adah Carter Myers. He married Dorothy L. Brannick on July 30, 1939 in Palmyra, MO. She died April 22, 1989. He then married Maxine Davidson Rupert on September 23, 1989 in Hester, MO. She preceded him in death on November 23, 1998.
Jack was a member of Vermont Street Untied Methodist Church where he had served as a head usher and on several committees. He was a 1937 graduate of Quincy High School and was active on organizing class reunions. He was an avid dancer and a member of the Q City Square Dance Club. Jack was an RSVP Mentor and a volunteer at Blessing Hospital. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening. He served his country during WWII and the Korean Conflict as a Warrant Officer receiving a Combat Badge, the Korean Service Medal with three stars and the ETO with three stars.
After his discharge from the Army, he began his career at the Electric Wheel Division of Firestone for 11 years and then 28 years at Packaging Corp. of America as a Design Manager. He retired in 1981 from the Plymouth, Michigan plant when he and his wife returned to Quincy.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Kay Fusco and her husband Luca of Camp Point; a step son, William "Bill" Rupert and his wife Jane of Quincy; a sister in law, Mary Hull of Payson; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his parents, wives and a sister Edith L. Strickler.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Chaplin Steve Dissler. Burial will be at Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 and until the time of the services on Friday at the funeral home.
