JACOBI ANNA SCHNELLE

Jacobi Anna Schnelle, 88, of 3133 Keller Lane, died at 1:05 p.m. Friday (December 14, 2007) in Blessing Hospital.

Born September 5, 1919 in Leer Ostfriesland, Germany, Jacobi was the daughter of Henry and Annetta Fink Plawer. She married Eugene V. Betz on October 12, 1941 in Hannibal, MO. He died June 12, 1955. She then married Harold August Schnelle on April 25, 1970 in Quincy. He died December 25, 1995.

Jacobi was a 1937 graduate of Quincy High School. She attended Gem City Business College and LPN training. She was honored with the Valiant Woman Award by Church Women United of Quincy. The award is given to a women who is active in the group as well as in her church and the community. Mrs. Schnelle held several offices for CWU, including four years as vice president, six years as president, was chairperson for numerous Celebration Days, chairperson of the By-laws Revision Committee and chairperson for the Fifth Decade fund-raiser. She was a longtime member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, where she served as church school superintendent, served on the Stewardship board and the Property Board, and was vice president, secretary and president of the Church Council. In the Ladies' group she served as president and vice president of the Women's Guild, president and vice president of Evening Guild and president of the Salem See and Do Club. She was also in charge of the funeral dinners for many years. Jacobi served as a Cub Scout den mother and in various offices for Parent Teacher Associations for schools of Linn Grove and Monroe schools and junior and senior high schools. She was a past president of Division 8 Licensed Practical Nurse Association of Illinois and also was on the state board for LPNs. She served two terms as president of the local YWCA, one term as treasurer and was on the board of directors for eight years. She served as vice president and president of the Good Samaritan Home Auxiliary, served on the Adams County Board of Home Extension for several years and served many years as an election judge in Melrose Township.

Mrs. Schnelle was employed as a LPN for Dr. Kuna for 18 years until her retirement in 1973.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene Betz and his wife Ruth and Michael Betz and his wife Cynthia both of Fowler; a step daughter, Dolores Barnes and her husband Bill of Centralia, MO; a daughter in law Pat Betz of Maywood, MO; 13 grandchildren, Christopher Betz and his wife Cindy, Mark Betz and his wife Sara, Amy Olson and her husband Bill, Paul Betz, Jennifer Johnson and her husband Todd, Laura Betz and Ryan Betz; six step grandchildren, Kim Smith and her husband Andy, Scott Jones and his wife Sharon, Karen Toomey and her husband Mike, Steve Haley and his wife Gina, Carol Shirley and her husband Mike and Amber Corbett; 13 great grandchildren; several step great and step great great grandchildren; two sisters, Klasine Ira of Omaha, NE and Henrietta Stone of Galesburg; a sister in law, Nona Plawer of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.

Jacobi was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a son John Betz, a brother Ralph Plawer, a step daughter Corene Haley and a step grand daughter Nancy Casper.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Wanda Seydel. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 and until the time of services at the funeral home.
