JAMES E. LAKE
Mr. James E. Lake, 74, of 633 Jefferson, Quincy, died at 3:20 p.m. Friday (May 29, 2009) in his home.
Born May 25, 1935 in Quincy, Jim was the son of Arthur Lee and Evelyn Clara Yungk Lake. He married Judith Willing on February 7, 1956 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2003.
Mr. Lake served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 - 1960. A Die Hard Cubs Fan and avid hunter, fisherman and trapshooter, Jim was a life member and past president of North Side Boat Club, a life member of the North American Hunter's Club, a member of Ducks Unlimited, Buckmasters, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Adams County Farm Bureau and the Quincy American Legion Post 37.
Jim took an active role in his community and neighborhood as a life member and commander of the Quincy Volunteer Emergency Corps and serving as a hunter safety instructor. He is fondly remembered by his neighbors as the "Mayor/Govenor of Jefferson Street".
Jim was employed as a mechanic for 33 years at Sears Automotive until his retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Goehl and her husband Mike of Quincy; two sons, Jeff Lake and his wife Dana and Tim Lake and his wife Debbie both of Quincy; a daughter in law, Tracy Brown of Adams, IL; eleven grandchildren, Michael Goehl of Quincy, Jennifer Baldwin of Quincy, Brian Goehl and his wife Kim of Quincy, Jessica Baldwin of Hannibal, MO, Nathan Brocksmith and his wife Jannel of Ft. Riley, KS, Lacey Brocksmith of Quincy, Lee Ann Lake of Quincy, Timma Lake of Quincy, Abbi Lake of Quincy, Brandon Lake of Quincy and Dustin Lake of Mendon, IL; thirteen great grandchildren, Tony Goehl, T. J. Crabtree, Austin Goehl, Kayla Goehl, Kortney Goehl, Zachary Brothers, Alex Goehl, Ashlynn Goehl, Brianna Goehl, Jacob Baldwin, Makenzie Brothers, Connor Blumke and Jerzey Brothers; and a niece, Sandra McMullen of Quincy.
Mr. Lake was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rodney "Moose" Lake; a daughter, Kaye Louise Lake; a brother, Lawrence Lake; a sister, Thelma Lake; and a niece,Shirley Dailing.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Lewis Edgecomb. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Quincy Volunteer Emergency Corps or the Heart Center of Blessing Hospital.
