JAMES E. MILES

James Ellis Miles, 76, of 2000 Sycamore, died at 4:20 p.m. Monday (June 18, 2007) in Blessing Hospital.

Born September 12, 1930 in Quincy, Jim was the son of Oscar and Mildred Pfaffe Miles. He married Doris Eileen Bowen on February 2, 1952 in Oceanside, California. She survives.

Jim was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. Jim loved hunting, fishing, camping and gardening and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean war and was awarded two purple hearts.

Jim was employed for 25 years at Motorola in Quincy. Following their closing, he and Doris moved to Pontiac, Missouri where they owned and operated the Roo-B-Boo Resort until moving back to Quincy where he was employed by Colt Industries. Jim was currently the custodian and groundskeeper at Lighthouse Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Doris; a daughter, Penny Ellen Bockenfeld and her husband Greg of Quincy; three sons, James Kipp Miles and his wife Bonnie of Quincy, Matt Elmon Miles and his wife Sherry of Jacksonville, FL. and Marty Ellis Miles and his wife Diana of Payson; eight grandchildren, Travis Bockenfeld and his wife Jamie, Heather Ellixson and her husband Joe, Tracy Ludwig and her husband Dan, Amanda Window and her husband Ryan, Matina McClelland and her husband Eric, Samantha Miles, Troy Platt and Paula Sue Lindquist; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Bollin and her husband Leo of Nauvoo, IL. and Leandra Samuel and her husband Michael of Naperville, IL.; three brothers, Paul Miles and his wife Vivian and Oscar Miles and his wife Mardelle both of Quincy and Timothy Miles and his wife Donna of Northbrook, IL.; two sisters in law, Mary Miles of Quincy and Jeanne Miles; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Miles was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oliver Miles and Carroll Miles; and two sisters, Wanda Dicks and Rosemary Aspeotis.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in the Lighthouse Baptist Church by Pastor Ben Means. Burial with Military Honors by Payson V.F.W. Post 2061 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Thursday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at Lighthouse Baptist Church.
