JAMES MARION WOOLDRIDGE
James Marion Wooldridge, 97, of Durham, North Carolina, formerly of Quincy, died Thursday (August 30, 2007) in Durham where he had made his home for the past five years with his son.
James was born into the family of William and Elizabeth Reid Wooldridge on June 17, 1910 in Wayland Missouri. His family moved to Warsaw, Illinois when he was one year old. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1928. He carried the WHIG-JOURNAL, clerked in the General Store, and was employed part time in the J. A. White Mill doing mill work and making wooden toy chairs.
He graduated from Gem City Business College in Stenographic and Bookkeeping and was hired July 16,1930 at Moorman Manufacturing Company. He worked in various departments at Moorman*s including accounting, traffic, credit and collection, secretary to plant superintendent and purchasing. He spent most of his years in the purchasing department and retired at age 65 as Manager of Purchasing.
During his lifetime at various times he was a member of The Advisory Board and the Profit Sharing Committee of Moorman*s Manufacturing Company, The Illinois Purchasing Agents Association, The Lions Club of Ursa, Illinois, The Toastmasters Club of Quincy, The First United Presbyterian Church, Salem Evangelical United church of Christ, and the Golden K Kiwanis Club.
His hobbies included traveling, woodworking, home building, farming and raising registered black angus cattle.
He is survived by his wife Pauline K. Wooldridge of Quincy; her daughter Judith Hill and her husband Jack of Tucson, AZ; two sons, James Michael Wooldridge and his wife Claudette of Conroe, TX, and Timothy Alan Wooldridge and his wife Dianne of Durham, NC; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Nellie McMahan Wooldridge; a daughter Zoe Emily Wooldridge Carroll; and a grandson Nelson Reid Wooldridge; a brother; and two sisters.
Graveside services will be Saturday morning (September 8, 2007) at 10:00 a.m. in the Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw, Illinois by the Rev. George Tomko.
There will be no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the graveside services.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Donor's choice.
