Mr. Jim VanMeter, 65, of 1406 Gayla Dr., died at 11:10 p.m. Saturday (November 20, 2004) at Blessing Hospital.
Born March 21, 1939 in Lewistown, MO., Jim was the son of Farrell B. and Mary Sue Porter VanMeter. He is survived by his wife Mary J. Purdin McNay. They were married February 14, 1981 in Lewistown, MO.
Jim attended Melrose United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #100 and the Quincy Gun Club. He enjoyed skeet and trap shooting and playing golf. Jim served his country in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
He was a sales representative for Moorman Manufacturing Company for over 25 years until his retirement.
Also surviving is his mother, Mary Sue VanMeter of Quincy; two sons, Mark VanMeter and his wife Angelia of Kansas City, MO. and Steve McNay and his wife Jane of Quincy; one daughter, Jayme VanMeter of Springfield, MO.; three grandchildren, Mariel McNay, Haylee McNay and Andrew McNay, all of Quincy; one brother, Ron VanMeter and his wife Sue of Rockwell, TX.; 2 brothers in law, Mace Poore and his wife Carol of Columbia, MO. and John Schlipmann and his wife Jackie of Quincy; one sister in law, Nancy Hall of Quincy; six nephews, Reginald VanMeter and Kirk VanMeter and his wife Marilyn, all of Dallas, TX., Cole Schaffnit and his wife Janet and David Schaffnit, all of Quincy, Jeff Poore and his wife Anita of Arizona, and Adam Schlipmann of Naperville, IL.; five nieces, Julie Morris and her husband Tony of Dallas, TX., Nancy Mitchell and her husband Stan of Nashville, TN., Jodi Bliven and her husband Tom and Abby and Allison Schlipmann, all of Quincy; one uncle, Raymond VanMeter and his wife Elaine of Lewistown, MO.; one aunt, Thelma Roberts of Grandview, MO.; and several cousins. Also special friends; Lou and Diana McClelland and Bob and Arlene Heck, all of Quincy, and Shane and Lucas McClelland of Hannibal.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Stan Mitchell. Following the funeral service, burial and graveside services will be in Lewistown Cemetery in Lewistown, MO.
Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Cancer Center or to the Blessing Rieman School of Nursing.
