
JO ANN GILLILAND
Mrs. Jo Ann Gilliland of 1500 Madison, Quincy, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 13, 2007 at Blessing Hospital. She was born May, 20, 1940 in Quincy, the eldest child of Marie and Werner Von Burg. She and Wayne Gilliland had enjoyed more than 49 years of marriage that began August 23, 1958.
Jo Ann attended school at St. John’s Parochial School and Quincy High School. She had worked most recently at Boag’s Restaurant and was loved by the customers and friends who she took such wonderful care of. She enjoyed most the simple pleasures in life - teaching a child to whistle or blow a bubblegum bubble, playing a game of cards, or a morning spent at yard sales. Sharing and caring were her way of life. From the family-sized dishes of her special recipes to the ever-present laughter in her kitchen, everyone was warmed and loved by her touch.
As Jo Ann’s devotion and joy was in caring for her family, she will be dearly remembered and daily missed by her husband, Wayne, and children Jeff and his wife, Marla, of Quincy; Jill and her husband, Steve Edgar, of Quincy; Sheri and her husband, Andy Howell, of Ursa; David and his wife, Lisa, of Quincy, Lori and Nick Muehring of Quincy, Amy Carper and her husband, Joe, of Canton, Missouri, Scott and his wife, Tina, of Quincy.
She was blessed to teach and nurture grandchildren Jared and Jordan Gilliland; Jodi and Jami Edgar; Ian and Sumer Howell; Lindsay and her husband, Jason Cooley; Justin, Maggie, and Katie Gilliland, Andy Cantrell, Emilie Muehring, Brady and Jack Gilliland, Jacob and Joshua Carper, and step grandchildren Joey, Magnum, Colt, Remington, and Allie Carper. The newest blessing was her great grandson Colton Cooley.
Jo Ann is also survived by sisters Mary, and her husband, Ron Daughtery, of Mendon; Kathy, and her husband, Ed Archambo, of Ursa; brothers Bob, Jim, and Mike VonBurg of Quincy, and Werner and his wife, Tammy, of Barry. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Art.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Leland Uden and Brother Ed Arambasich. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
