
JOHN D. BLACK
Mr. John D. Black, 89, of 301 North 8th, formerly of 1204 North 16th., died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday (January 26, 2005) in Blessing Hospital.
Born September 26, 1915 in Hurdland, Missouri, John was the son of Thomas E. and Maud McCoy Black. He married Marian Clark on January 8, 1949 in Quincy. She survives.
John was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, a 57 year member of Benjamin Masonic Lodge No. 297, Quincy Consistory and Alpha Chapter 109 Order of Eastern Star. He was an avid Cub fan who enjoyed all sports, especially golf.
John worked in Automotive Parts sales for many years before becoming the purchasing agent for Master Tank. He retired in 1980.
Surviving is his wife; a son, Trenton Black and his fiance' Geri Weaver of Quincy; a daughter, Diana Bowers and her close friend, Dr. Robert Borders of Olathe, KS.; six grandchildren, Ryan Bowers, Jonathan Bowers, Melissa Turner and her husband Brian, Jennifer Black, Travis Black and Andrea Black and her friend, Bobby Uppinghouse all of Quincy; a great grandson, Bretten "Popcorn" Uppinghouse of Quincy; a former son in law, Steve Bowers of Mendon; and several nieces and nephews. John was proudly awaiting the arrival of his second great grandchild due in March.
Mr. Black was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Forrest "Bud" Black; and four sisters, Martha Campbell, Opal Scott, Maud Clark and Emma Felsman.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Steven Livengood. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday morning until the time of services at the funeral home. Benjamin Lodge No. 297 will conduct Masonic services Friday evening at 7:00 in the funeral home.
