JOHN "SPIDER" PURTLE

Mr. John "Spider" Purtle, 55, of 823 Jersey, died at 3:30 pm Sunday (September 30, 2007) in the Springfield Terrace Nursing Center in Springfield, Illinois.

Born June 9, 1952 in Canton, Illinois, John was raised in the foster home of William and Genevieve Porter. He married Jennifer L. Logsdon on March 3, 2007 in Quincy, Illinois. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2007.

Spider enjoyed riding motorcycles and collecting toy motorcycles. He loved to play his guitar and especially liked having a good time with his friends. Mr. Purtle served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Purtle was employed at Trinity Industries and later for Manchester Tank. He retired due to health reasons.

Survivors include his foster mother, Genevieve Porter of Canton, IL.; a son, Nathan Brady of Iowa City, IA.; a foster sister, Roseanna Waters of Indiana; three foster brothers, Kenny Porter and Scott Hughes both of Canton, IL. and Stewart Hughes of Peoria, IL.; and close friends, Bridget and Tony Bliss of Camp Point, IL.

Mr. Purtle was preceded in death by foster father, William Porter; his wife, Jennifer; a brother, Kenny Purtle; and a foster sister, Becky Johnson.

Cremation rites have been accorded to Mr. Purtle. Graveside memorial services will be held Monday afernoon at 1:00 p.m. at Greenmount Cemetery with Tony Bliss officiating.

There is no visitation, but friends are invited to the services.
