JOHN R. SAUNDERS

John R. Saunders, 81, of 726 South 22nd, died at 3:20 a.m. Friday (July 13, 2007) in Blessing Hospital.

Born September 19, 1925 in Perry County, Illinois, John was the son of Sam and Florence Silkwood Saunders. He married Pansy Boals on October 20, 1946 in East Alton, Illinois. She survives.

Mr. Saunders was a member of Cedar Crest County Club, Quincy American Legion Post #37, and the Adams County Pharmaceutical Association. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a pharmacist's mate.
After the war, he entered the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and graduated with Honorable Mention. After graduation, he and his wife moved to Quincy where he worked at the Riley Drug Store. John was employed as a sales representative for Squibb Drug for 30 years until his retirement.

Also surviving is a son, John Saunders Jr. and his wife Sandra of Lake Dallas, TX.; and two grandchildren, Scott Cray of Dallas, TX. and Amy Saunders of Lake Dallas, TX.

Mr. Saunders was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas and George Saunders.

Cremation rites were accorded to Mr. Saunders. Graveside memorial services with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be held Monday morning (August 13, 2007) at 11:00 in Sunset Cemetery by the Rev. George Tomko.

There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the graveside service.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home activity fund.
